Introduction

Hi, I'm Jim, and I've been taking disappointing pictures for about 20 years. A few months ago I decided to do something about that, so I started getting serious about my photography. For me, this meant reading and more reading. Probably too much reading.

All of this reading has started to pay off however. This past weekend, I finally felt comfortable with the camera. I was THINKING while I looked through the view finder. This is not to say that I've ever had trouble with the technical side of photography, but rather I just didn't think about what I was doing behind the viewfinder.

Oh, that reminds me, I read somewhere that you should:
"Look through the viewfinder" and
"Look AT the viewfinder.

What's the difference? Looking through the viewfinder allows you to compose your shot. Get a tripod and spend some time composing. Looking at the viewfinder allows you to "see" the final image. i.e. decide whether you are happy with what you composed
